"I love to paint and create art and I love nature".  Using the mediums of oil, gouache, watercolor, and assorted printmaking materials and techniques, my work expresses the mysteries, energies, beauty, patterns, and rhythms of the world as I experience it.  Through light, color, and ocmposition I draw the viewer into a sense of the moment within my landscapes, botanicals, still lifes, and organic abstractions.  Whether working in the studio or plein air, I choose themes that will be visually strong and dramatic, with colors and forms which interact  in a healing, harmonious way."    Deborah earned a BA with Honors in Fine Arts from Brandeis University, receiving a special departmental first prize award in painting. She went on to complete her MA in Art Education from New York University, then continued her art studies at the Art Students League, Parsons School of Design, and the School of Visual Arts, as well as at numerous  workshops.  Believing in the transformative power of  art in peoples' lives, Beck taught art and drug prevention education in the public schools for many years and continues to conduct art residencies and workshops in a variety of educational settings for both children and adult, as a teaching artist through such organizations as Arts Westchester.  This coming summer, 2010, she will be teaching childrens' art workshops at the Chautauqua Institute in upstate New York.  She is an active member of a number of art organizations, including National Association of Women Artists, Pen and Brush Club, Katonah Museum Artists Association, and New York Arists Equity Assoociation, in addition to the Peekskill Arts Council. Gallery in Croton Falls, N.Y., the Sculpture Barn in   Fairfield, CT., and the George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University, N.J.  In 2007 she participated in the WNYC Radio Lenny Lopate Show  "How the Hi Cost of Living in NYC Affects Artists".  She has received a number of painting and printmaking awards and residency grants, and has had her work featured in "American Psychologist" magazine (August 2001), the "Brandeis Review" (Winter 1997),  "Kaatskill Life" magazine (Fall 1998), "Catskill Mountain Region Guide" (April 2007)  and the "Women Artists Datebook,", Syracuse Cultural Workers (2006, 2007).

An inveterate world traveller, Deborah has been inspired by her numerous global voyages. combined with a passion for nature, give Deborah Beck constant renewal, taking her art to new heights.
